Title: Levitation of particles in fluids near oscillating walls
Speaker: Dr. Itzhak Fouxon (Ben Gurion University, Israel)
Abstract: Fine mass measurements of small biological particles are often done with the help of QCM devices. These are extremely sensitive resonators, which allow registering minute variations of mass due to particles adsorbed on the surface of an oscillating plane. However, it was observed that in some cases the particles do not sediment on the oscillating bottom of the device's vessel. They rather remain suspended in the fluid. We will explain the origin of this levitation.
